THE Mission - About the Founders
|
THE Mission, Tanzania Health and Education Mission, was formed by four women following their
exploratory journey to Tanzania in early 2007 to bring medical and school supplies and to assess
the needs of the people. What we learned is that the need is great and that there is much
that can be done with simple resources.
The Board of Directors of THE Mission is currently comprised of the four founding women, Jehane
and Sarah Jones, Pam Sullivan and Sherry Cassedy, together with Fr. Paulinus Mangesho who hosted
the women in Tanzania. The four founders bring complementary skills, experience and
personalities to the organization and create a powerful leadership team for THE Mission.
Jehane Jones: An ER nurse at Sequoia Hospital, Jehane brings an excellent understanding of
emergency health care needs and a deep compassion for the people. She works with various
church organizations to help the less fortunate and brings a tireless energy to THE Mission project.
Pamella Sullivan: Pam is a critical care nurse at Sequoia and a former elementary school
teacher and brings her knowledge, experience and dedication to our work. Pam is also an
amazing photographer and has created numerous slideshows from the thousands of photos from our
journeys to tell the story of THE Mission.
Sarah Jones-Wenzel: Sarah's work at Bessemer is not directly related to our Mission work
but she puts her administrative and organizational skills as well as her passion and talent as a
photographer to good use for THE Mission. Sarah also puts her energy to work in our
fundraising efforts especially for our annual Auction for Africa benefit.
Sherry Cassedy: Sherry is a lawyer by training and has managed the legal and tax matters
for THE Mission as well as bringing her enthusiasm and experience in teaching to spearhead our
education efforts especially in the secondary schools.
Although we are not a religious organization and all are welcome, the Mission trip is a journey
of faith. Because of the Catholic setting in which we live and the Catholic context in which
much of the work is done, there is a challenge to explore one’s own faith tradition and beliefs.
Because of the depths of connection with the people and also with nature, there is an
invitation to explore one’s own spirituality. We invite this exploration and welcome your
sharing of your experience as we journey together.
